During a precious gathering in Shenyang, Mu Ran Gong’s mentor, Master Ran, charted the correct path for his art: “Landscape painting must inherit the past and herald the future, daring to break established methods. Break the methods of predecessors, and use the essence of contemporary Eastern and Western cultures to depict a world-class… new ink language.”This became the methodological principle for Mu Ran Gong’s “Fantasy-Color Freehand” system: preserve the orthodoxy of Eastern philosophy while breaking the boundaries of media and technique.

Guided by this concept, he did not abandon brush and ink but engaged in systematic experimentation. He boldly fused ink with mineral pigments and acrylics, creating a unique “symbiosis of color and ink” texture. More central is the “temporal-spatial overlay” technique, which compresses the passion and contemplation from different moments of creation onto the same plane. The painting thus becomes not a static instant but a condensation of a dynamic process, embodying philosophical contemplation on time itself.

This practice of the “break and establish” dialectic allows his work to be deeply rooted in the Eastern cosmology of “the interaction of cosmic elements among heaven, earth, and man”, while responding to the era’s call for “the revival of Chinese landscape culture” with a powerful contemporary visual impact, finding a distinctive cultural expression within the global context.
